About Jan Goetgeluk
Jan Goetgeluk is the founder and CEO of Virtuix and the creator of “Omni,” the world’s first omni-directional treadmill that lets players walk and run in 360 degrees inside videogames and other virtual worlds.
Jan is originally from Belgium and moved to Houston, USA in 2007 as a Project Engineer for Katoen Natie, a Belgian logistics conglomerate. He decided to stay in the U.S. and left Katoen Natie to obtain his MBA degree at Rice University in Houston. Upon graduation in 2010, Jan joined J.P. Morgan as an Investment Banker in Houston and New York. While working as an investment banking associate, he started developing the Omni after hours, often working until late in the morning. In February 2013, after two years of researching, experimenting, and prototyping, Jan decided to leave his full-time job and founded Virtuix to bring the Omni to market.
To date, Virtuix has shipped over 4,000 commercial Omni Pro units and installed more than 75 Omni Arena systems at entertainment venues in the U.S., and they’ve built a fast-growing community of over 400,000 registered players. In 2023, Virtuix started shipping Omni One, their first consumer system designed for the home. Virtuix has raised more than $40MM from private and institutional investors, including Mark Cuban, twelve venture capital funds, and two strategic investors.
Jan currently lives in Austin, USA with his wife Erica and three kids. He holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ghent in Belgium, and an MBA degree from Rice University in Houston.
